Hearing Aid Styles

The size, placement on or inside the ear, and the degree to which a hearing aid amplifies sound are all used to determine the best solution to your hearing problem. Here are the different styles:

Behind-the-ear (BTE) aids – these have most of the hearing aid parts contained in a small plastic case that rests behind the ear; the case is then connected to an earmold or an earpiece by a piece of clear tubing. Mini-BTE aids are also available that are smaller. These hearing aids are easy to handle and easy to clean.

In addition to the different styles, most hearing aids also come with wireless, programmable features, like:

  • noise management programs – so that you can hear speech in noisy environments
  • automatic adjustments – so that the natural quality of sound is preserved
  • directional microphones – so that you can locate the origin of sound
  • telecoils – so that your hearing aids don’t interfere with your phone

Hearing Aid Prices

The price of hearing aids varies widely depending on the style, function, and associated features, in addition to the type of performance you’re looking for and the amount of time each day you will be using them.

Your lifestyle plays an important part in determining which hearing aid to select. If you live an active life, watch a lot of TV, constantly talk on the phone, and socialize with friends and family, then you’re going to want a more robust hearing aid that will help you get the most out of these activities. If your lifestyle is more laid back, on the other hand, you won’t need all of the bells-and-whistles associated with the most advanced hearing aid models.

Difference Between Price and Value

The cost of a hearing aid and its value are two different things, and only you can make that determination. To determine the value of a hearing aid, list all of the situations in which better hearing would make your life that much better. What’s the value of having better conversations with your spouse, hearing everything your grandchildren are saying, or being able to follow a TV program?

The more situations in which you use your hearing aids, and the more satisfaction you would get from these situations with better hearing, the higher the value of your hearing aids will be. Next, you have to compare the value with the cost.

Priceless Sounds of Life for $3 Per Day

The cost of hearing aids range from $1,000 to $3,500. That means for as little as $3 per day, you can hear and communicate clearly in all situations. In most cases, our patients feel that the value of their hearing aids outweigh the costs, and that hearing aids represent a good investment. Also, hearing aids come with an adjustment or trial period, typically 30 days from date of purchase. During this adjustment period, you’re welcome to visit your hearing aid professional for any necessary fitting issues, or if for any reason you are not satisfied with the hearing aids you buy, you can return them for a refund minus a very small fitting/restocking fee.

In-the-canal (ITC) aids and completely-in-the-canal (CIC) aids – these hearing aids are contained in tiny cases that fit partially or completely in the ear canal, making them nearly invisible.

In-the-ear (ITE) aids – these have all of the hearing aid parts contained in a shell that fills in the outer part of the ear. The ITE aids are smaller than the behind-the-ear aids but larger than the  in-the-canal aids. These hearing aids are easier to handle and are less noticeable than the behind-the-ear aids.
